SPL_logo_220x240_ENGCounseling Services, Veterans and Military Student Services and the Library Events Committee are pleased to welcome staff from the Veterans Administration’s suicide prevention unit back to campus.  The VA staff will be offering training for Metropolitan State staff, faculty and student workers on Wednesday, July 29 from 10 a.m.–noon at the Library and Learning Center, Room 308, 700 East Seventh Street, Saint Paul.

This class focuses on how to identify warning signs and risk factors for suicide, how to ask a person if they are suicidal and where to refer someone for professional help. The class also builds suicide prevention awareness by introducing assessment and intervention skills.

The facilitator for this training is Lindy Fortin-Case, a licensed social worker who has served as the suicide prevention coordinator since the program’s inception. To register contact Ruth Bier, Counseling Services office manager, at 651-793-1568 or ruth.bier@metrostate.edu.
