Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access the Fitness Room?
All students and employees must submit a registration form and sign a waiver and release form at the beginning of every semester in order to access the Fitness Room. When your forms are received, you get a validation card to be shown at the Student Center service desk whenever you come to work out. The staff person gives you a keycard to open the Fitness Room (you may also leave your Metro State ID in lieu of the validation card). Your validation card or ID are returned to you when you return the keycard.

What is the membership fee?

There is no cost for enrolled students. Employees may use the facilities on a free trial basis between Feb. 23 and March 31. On April 1 the special introductory rate for employees is $50 for the 2016 calendar year April through Dec. 31. Payments may be made with cash, check or money order only. Payroll deduction is not available at this time. Payments are nonrefundable. The fee is prorated as the year progresses.

What are the Fitness Room hours of operation?

The Fitness Room is accessible whenever the Student Center is open, but will close 30 minutes before the Student Center closes. On Feb. 23, the Fitness Room is open from noon–10:30 p.m. The schedule thereafter is:

Day(s) of the Week Hours of Operation
Monday through Friday 7 a.m.–10:30 p.m.
Saturday 8 a.m.–7:30 p.m.
Sunday Noon–10:30 p.m.

Note: Hours are subject to change during spring and winter breaks, and during the summer terms.

Does the Fitness Room have lockers and showers?

Yes. The Fitness Room has two private, gender-neutral, wheelchair accessible bathrooms equipped with a shower, sink and toilet. There are also 20 lockers that students and employees may use at no charge while using the Fitness Room. When you check in at the Student Center service desk, you’ll receive a padlock and key, along with the access keycard, and return them when you check out.

What equipment is the Fitness Room?

To date, the Fitness Room is equipped with top-of-the line strength training equipment and useful fitness accessories, including: 1 Roman chair; 1 dual-action Smith machine; 1 hoist trainer; 3 free motion machines (2 lower body, 1 upper body); 15 dumbbell sets ranging from 2.5lbs to 70lbs; 4 Kettlebells (5lb, 10lb, 15lb, 20lb); 5 resistance bands; 3 stability balls; 2 stretching mats; 2 foam rollers. The following cardio equipment will be arriving very soon: 3 treadmills; 2 elliptical machines; 1 elliptical/climber combo machine; 1 water rower; 1 recumbent bike; and 1 spin bike.

What if I don’t know how to use the equipment?

Most of the strength training machines and many of the accessories have picture tutorials for your reference. The cardio equipment will have screen prompts or a “quick start” feature to assist you. If you still need assistance, feel free to ask Student Life staff for a demonstration.

May I bring a non-Metro guest with me when I work out?

At this time, only enrolled Metropolitan State students and Metropolitan  State employees are allowed in the Fitness Room. This policy will be revisited when there has been ample time to assess the usage of the facility.
