Semifinalists for president of Metropolitan State University named
Minnesota State Colleges and Universities has named two semifinalists who are under consideration to be president of Metropolitan State University. The candidates are Virginia (Ginny) Arthur and Fernando Delgado.
The candidates were recommended by a search advisory committee comprised of students, faculty, staff, and community leaders, and chaired by Scott Olson, president of Winona State University. The candidates are scheduled to visit the campus on March 21 and March 22, 2016. The campus visits provide an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and members of the community to meet each candidate and offer feedback. Ginny Arthur has served Metropolitan State University as executive vice president and provost since 2015, and as provost and vice president for academic affairs from 2012 to 2015. Previously, she served the University of Northern Iowa as associate provost for faculty affairs from 2009 to 2012, and the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University from 1985 to 2009 in several capacities, including professor of management, Management Department chair, and vice chair and chair of the joint faculty assembly. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University and a juris doctor from the American University Washington College of Law. She will visit the campus of Metropolitan State University on Monday, March 21.
Fernando Delgado has served the University of Wisconsin-River Falls as vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost since 2009. Previously, he served Hamline University as dean of the College of Liberal Arts from 2006 to 2009; Minnesota State University, Mankato as dean of the College of Graduate Studies and Research from 2004 to 2006; and Arizona State University, West Campus, as associate vice provost for academic programs and graduate studies from 2000 to 2004. He has served on the faculty of Arizona State University, Hamline University, and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He holds a bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University and a master’s and doctorate from the University of Iowa. He will visit the campus of Metropolitan State University on Tuesday, March 22.
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees is expected to consider Chancellor Steven Rosenstone’s recommendation at its April 20 meeting. The anticipated start date of the new president is July 1, 2016.
Meet with the candidates
Each candidate will visit campus for a full day and the university community is encouraged to participate in the sessions scheduled.
The schedule of meeting times and locations is shown below. It is a very tight schedule and the candidates will have a very full day which will include a tour of Metropolitan State’s four campuses.
The selected candidate will replace Interim President Devinder Malhotra, whose term will be completed June1, 2016.
