The School of Nursing faculty, staff and students sponsored and served a spring dinner for the community.
The nursing faculty, staff, and nursing students from Metropolitan State University prepared and served dinner to the residents of the community at the Love Grows Here Wellness Center at First Lutheran Church in Saint Paul. About a dozen or more nursing students and 12 to 15 faculty and staff from the School of Nursing served as many as 250 people at the April 27 dinner.
The Love Grows Here Wellness Center was founded in 2008 as a community partnership within the community. Metropolitan State has been a key member of this partnership, with the nursing program regularly delivering services to the community.
Services offered are a weekly meal and food pantry, on-going food assistance, clothing closet and household goods, transitional housing resources, free mental health counseling, pastoral care, alternative healing modalities, dental resources, community education courses, activities for children and youth and more. Space is provided for nursing students who are there weekly to provide foot care, blood pressure checks, hand massages, medical triage, referrals, resources and health education information.
A nurse practitioner also offers services regularly. This partnership benefits our nursing students and program as well as the community. The Metropolitan State University nursing program is certainly showing evidence of creating partnerships that support our vision and mission.
