At the university’s urging and funding, the City of Saint Paul is installing pedestrian flashing signs (rectangular rapid flashing beacons or RRFBs) to signal drivers of our crosswalk. The work started May 9 and is expected to complete by mid-June.
The work includes the installation of two RRFBs north of the crosswalk and two on the south side.
The Assistant City Engineer visited the site three times in the last two months and each time he saw that not all of us were crossing at the designated crosswalk or observing traffic before crossing.
To remain safe while crossing, you should:
- only cross at the designated crosswalk,
- make eye contact with drivers before crossing, and
- refrain from using mobile devices when crossing.
