Metro State Votes: Countdown to Election Day

The election is days away. Now is the time for all of us to help get out the vote.

Brett Buckner, a graduate student in the College of Management’s Master of Advocacy and Political Leadership program and working with the Institute for Community Engagement and Scholarship, is organizing the university’s Metro State Votes Campaign to boost voter participation among students.

The upcoming election, will include the historic race for the U.S. presidency, as well as congressional representatives, and county, municipal and school board offices across the state. All 201 seats in the Minnesota State Legislature up for the ballot.

“This election is too critical for anyone to not have their ballot cast and their voice heard,” Buckner says.

Before the election, Buckner challenges students to contact and win over five friends to ensure their vote. It’s less important to advocate for a cause or candidate than it is to encourage voter participation.

“Friends help friends vote in critical elections; this is a critical election. How can I help you vote on November 8th?” Buckner explains.
