With a wide range of options available to Metropolitan State students, everyone can benefit from the opportunities these services offer. Get to know these great services and utilize them to enhance your academic journey.

Tutoring Services

Meet with tutors that can help relieve stress from complicated homework problems and writing assignments. No more headaches and guessing! Metropolitan State offers math, science and computer science centers at the Saint Paul Campus and Midway Center. Writing centers serve students at those locations, as well as at the Minneapolis Campus.

Career Center

With so many degree options, it’s important to research the one that’s right for you. The Career Center’s page features websites listed to help explore occupations, identify skills and learn about different types of majors. The Pathways Program can help students within the insurance and financial services explore career options and skills to secure a job in their chosen field. Webinars, resume resources and online workshops are also available to students looking to enhance their professional skills. In person career counseling is also available.

Counseling Services

Student life can be stressful—learn to manage stressors and release anxiety with the help of a counselor. Simply set up an appointment and let the healing begin.

Student Parent Center  

Find on and off campus resources to navigate the challenges of parenting while in school through the Student Parent Center. Participate in support and discussion groups, find a peer mentor and attend fun family events organized by the center.

TRIO

TRIO consists of three distinct programs that help make access, retention and graduation possible for first generation students and those with limited income.

  • Upward Bound is targeted at high school students wishing to gain college skills and credits.
  • TRIO’s Student Support Services are committed to helping Metropolitan State students reach their academic goals by supplying extra resources to make success happen.
  • The Power of You provides financial and academic support to transferring students and to those who meet requirements.

Food for Thought

Food for Thought is a food pantry that provides unprepared food directly to students in need who do not have enough to eat. Food for Thought is organized by the Student Parent Center in partnership with Good in the ‘Hood, receiving assistance from the Student Senate and Second Harvest Heartland. It’s open to all Metropolitan State students, located at the Saint Paul Campus, Founders Hall 201A and is open Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. The pantry accepts any and all food donations. Volunteer opportunities are also available.

Disability Services scavenger hunt

To promote the new location and highlight the office’s partners within the university, Disability Services is hosting scavenger hunts in May and September. The activity is open to all students and those who complete the challenge earn a chance to win a $25 Target gift card.

Students can participate by obtaining a passport card at the Disability Services office, L223 New Main. Visit the locations listed in the passport and obtain a stamp from each. Turn in the completed the passport and turn it back in to the  Disability Services office. The hunts run the entire months of May and September. The following departments will be participating in the hunts.

Center for Academic Excellence:  Main Tutoring Center – L 130. The Center for Academic Excellence is a learning and student-support department at Metropolitan State University devoted to cultivating student success and helping students achieve their academic goals. The center also works collaboratively with faculty across disciplines to address student needs.

Center for Academic Excellence – STEM Center – SEC:  Room 122. The Science Center provides support for select biology, chemistry, and physics courses at Metropolitan State University. Students can come to the Science Center for group work, individual practice, and tutoring assistance.

TRio – FH L101. TRIO-Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded program through the U.S. Department of Education. TRIO:SSS targets degree-seeking undergraduates, who meet eligibility requirements. Their goal is to assist students:

  • by enhancing and supporting YOUR college experience
  • by engaging YOU with support through faculty, staff and students
  • by providing strategies, personal development and a sense of community
  • by increasing YOUR likelihood to stay in college and graduate with a four-year degree from Metropolitan State University

Counseling Services – FH 221. Student Counseling Services (SCS) offers individual and group counseling as well as workshops to help students find better ways to cope with and resolve the problems of everyday life.

Veterans Services – FH 201. Is here to assist all who have or are currently serving in any branch of the United States Armed Forces.

Library (Assistive Technology) Library 2nd Floor Circulation Desk. The Library and Information Services exists to fulfill the information needs and foster the intellectual growth of the Metropolitan State University community.

Disability Services NM L223. Disability Services helps students get started acquiring any necessary accommodations.

 

 

 

 

New tutoring location at Science Education Center

The Center for Academic Excellence announces the opening of its new tutoring location in Room 122 of the new Science Education Center (SEC). Students may receive appointment-based tutoring in math, science, and information and computer sciences courses at this location. Science and math tutoring in Saint Paul was previously located in LIB 130; that location continues to offer Writing Center tutorials.
