Feb. 2: Metropolitan State Winter Fest 2018

Metropolitan State’s all-student University Activities Board will host Winter Fest 2018 from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 2, in the Student Center, Saint Paul Campus.

Winter Fest is also an opportunity to learn about the office of Student Life and Leadership Development and a variety of student organizations. Students will also be able to explore the Student Center and sample select menu items offered by Alimama Mediterranean Deli, located on the first floor of the Student Center.

The event will feature an ice-less skating rink, a hot soup and cider buffet, winter health and safety resources provided by the Health and Wellness Student Association, a “selfie” photo station, and numerous giveaways. At 6:30 p.m., a free screening of the Disney animation movie, “Frozen” will be shown in Film Space in Founders Hall Auditorium.  Students, employees, alumni, and guests of any age are invited to attend all festivities.

Nov. 6: Haute Dish fall reading

The arts and literature student organization, Haute Dish, invites students to join them for a casual reading of prose and poetry published in recent issues of the student magazine, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Student Center, Fireplace Lounge, on the Saint Paul Campus, 700 7th St E, St Paul, MN 55106.

The event includes a discussion of the pieces with the artists. Alimama’s cafe in the Student Center will be open for coffee and treats. For more information about Haute Dish, click here.

Job Fair Orientation and Prep Workshop

At 5:00pm on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 in the Student Center on the Main Campus, Alumni Relations and Career Center will host a Job Fair Orientation and Prep Workshop. 

This session will be a great opportunity for students to network with alumni and polish up their first impression skills, learn what questions to ask a potential employer and develop confidence in presenting themselves as an attractive candidate. Students can register in Handshake for the Job Fair Prep Session.

 

 

April 4–8: Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Week

Sexual violence is unacceptable but far too often it is accepted as part of cultural or societal norms the world over. How do we change these norms? It starts with respect and understanding. It starts when one person decides to speak up and others follow that cue. It starts with all of us. This year, Metropolitan State is participating in It’s On Us, a national public awareness campaign to help prevent campus sexual assault.

Metropolitan State University is committed to providing an environment free of sexual violence. Events this week include several opportunities to sign a pledge to end sexual violence, movie screenings and a chance to hear an outstanding vocal activist. Events are co-sponsored with Student Life Leadership and Development, Student Affairs and Affirmative Action and Join the university in preventing sexual violence by attending campus events April 4–8. Feb. 22–23: Black History Month display

You are invited to view a display celebrating Black History Month and honoring veterans. View the display from 9 a.m.–6 p.m., Feb. 22 and 23 at Saint Paul Campus, Room 101, Student Center.

The display was created by Conceive Believe Achieve, a nonprofit organization that provides tools to conceive the concept of diversity by experiencing the rich history of different ethnicities. Attendees will see large format displays with corresponding syllabi to teach, promote and embrace diversity.

This event is sponsored by Metropolitan State, Minnesota National Guard, Metro State Veterans and Military Student Services, Metro State Yellow Ribbon, Student Life and Leadership Development, Equal Opportunity Office and Metro State Veterans Network.

Fitness center opens on Saint Paul Campus Feb. 23

Getting your daily workout in is about to get a lot easier. A new fitness center opens Feb. 23 on Saint Paul Campus. The facility, located on the second floor of the Student Center, features the following amenities:

  • Stretching mats
  • Foam rollers
  • Lockers
  • Full bathrooms with showers

The current equipment includes:

  • Roman chair
  • Hoist trainer
  • Dumbbell sets
  • Kettlebells
  • Resistance bands
  • Stability balls

The fitness center is free for Metropolitan State students and available to employees for a nominal fee. For a complete list of current and planned equipment, view this flyer.

Jan. 22: Student Center Grand Opening Program

Celebrate the opening of the new Student Center at the Grand Opening Program, 4:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22 at 690 East Seventh Street, Saint Paul. The new addition to Saint Paul Campus was made possible by the collaboration and support of students, faculty, staff and the community.

The program features remarks by current and former Student Senate leaders, university administration and community leaders. Refreshments are provided and no registration is required.
